Reconstruction of the Roman South Gate

Reconstruction of the Roman South Gate

The reconstruction is based on the evidence of a series of small excavations here since the 1960s. The gate consisted of a pair of towers, square in plan, flanking the road, with a central carriageway and a pair of narrow entrances for pedestrians.
