Back–filling of the bath–house

After the discovery and excavation of the legionary bath-house a scheme was drawn up to open the site as a museum and tourist attraction. Until such time as funds were available to undertake this project the bath-house was filled with sand to protect it. This sand could easily be removed to reveal the archaeological remains beneath, but the site remains hidden beneath the modern Cathedral Green.
