Reconstruction of the Roman town wall at Paul Street
Back to Time PeriodExcavation prior to the construction of the Habitat building in Paul Street in the early 1980s revealed the former existence of a square tower on the inside face of the wall - no doubt one of a series. The drawing shows the appearance of the defences in the third and fourth centuries: the shallow ditch in front, the wall standing about 6m high, with an earth rampart behind.
