A Mediterranean amphora

A Mediterranean amphora

In the Roman civil period the importation of amphorae carrying goods from the Mediterranean continued, but on a smaller scale than during the years of the fortress. The most important source continued to be Baetica, the area around modern Seville in south-west Spain, but a scatter of other types is represented, some from the southern coast of France, others from the east Mediterranean. The amphora shown here is of Pélichet form 47, from the southern coast of France.
