Letter of 1700 with Exeter postmark

The letter, from Mr Barrett of Exeter to Mr John Aylward, merchant of London, is dated June 1, 1700. It bears the postmark 'Exon' in small serifed capitals, together with the London arrival mark of June 3. This is the earliest provincial postmark and this letter the only known example.
