Plans for houses in the St Loye’s Estate, Wonford

The city's newly-built houses were highly regarded across the country for their high standard of construction. This plan of 1935, by the city architect John Bennett, shows the main type of house on the estate: the so-called 'parlour house'. They were semi-detached and contained three bedrooms, an indoor bathroom with bath, external W.C., living room, parlour, and a kitchen with a copper, gas stove and drying rack. This was a great improvement upon the houses from which people had been moved.
