A coin of Nero (obverse)
Back to Time PeriodThis coin of Nero was found in the garden of No. 99 Beacon Lane in 1984. The obverse side is seen heere. It is a silver tetradrachm of Nero struck in the year AD 64-5, when the Second Augustan legion was at Exeter. It is, however, a puzzle because such coins did not routinely circulate in Britain but in the east Mediterranean. It is uncertain whether the coin is a collector’s loss of the recent past.
