Wheel–thrown grey wares

The view shows a selection of the wheel-thrown grey wares used in the legionary fortress. They are believed to have been made in the immediate vicinity of the fortress, perhaps in a military compound attached to it. The use of the potter’s wheel was an introduction of the Roman period, and the forms were new ones in South West England, so this pottery almost certainly represents the work of potters who travelled into South-West England with the army.
