Neolithic polished axe fragment from Goldsmith Street, Exeter

Back to Time Period
Neolithic polished axe fragment from Goldsmith Street, Exeter

The fragment, from the blade end of a polished Neolithic axe of pale brownyellow flint, much like the polished axe found at Waybrook Cottages, Alphington, has been re-flaked on both surfaces after initial breakage. It was found in 19th century deposits in Goldsmith Street and was possibly brought to the site in a load of modern gravel.
