A South Somerset cup
Back to Time PeriodThis small cup, found at Friars Gate in 1973, dates to c. 1690-1720. It was made in South Somerset, probably at Donyatt, and illustrates the use of trailed slip on a red-brown glazed earthenware body which was popular there. The vessel must have held drinks which were warmed in the fire because the side opposite the handle is heavily fire-scorched.
